What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture may be visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
We do not currently allow users to upload images. However, if image uploads become available in the future, users should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as visitors can extract this data from public images.
Contact forms
On some pages, you may submit information through forms. The personal information collected may include:
Your name
Email address
Phone number
This information is used strictly to respond to your inquiries or to deliver information you have requested. It is not shared or used for any other purpose.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your details when leaving another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and log in:
We set a temporary cookie to test if your browser accepts cookies (discarded when you close your browser).
Login cookies last for two days (or two weeks if you select “Remember Me”).
Screen display preference cookies last for a year.
Editing or publishing an article will store a cookie with the article ID (expires after 1 day).
Embedded content from other websites
Articles or lessons on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, music players, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if the visitor has visited that website directly.
These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content—especially if you have an account and are logged in to that third-party website.
Analytics
We use aggregated, non-identifying information from analytics tools (like Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use our website. IP addresses are anonymized and no personally identifiable information is tracked.
Who we share your data with
We do not share your personal data with third parties unless required by law or to deliver core website services (e.g., email delivery, form processing). These partners are GDPR-compliant and equally committed to your privacy.
How long we retain your data
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically.
For users who register on our website (if any), we store the personal information they provide in their user profile.
All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except for the username).
Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can:
Request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you.
Request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.
This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
